Our minimum volunteer age is 15 in respect to the minimum working age in Australia. We can accept volunteers at the age of 15 as long as we are provided a written letter of permission from a parent or guardian. Students wishing to perform work experience with Salvos Stores may be exempt from this policy, on the condition the placement is approved in writing by a third party organisation responsible for the work experience (school, scout group etc). The third party organisation must confirm in writing that they have full insurance coverage for the volunteer (including personal injury and public liability coverage).
There is no maximum age of any employee or volunteer, assuming they are able to safely carry out their duties to the requirements of their position.
There are no minimum hours for volunteering, as long as it fits the store’s current needs. We do have a maximum working week of 38 hours in conjunction with employment law for all workers.
All individuals wishing to volunteer with Salvos Stores must be eligible to volunteer in Australia in accordance with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) guidelines. It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that they are eligible to volunteer in Australia. If you are not an Australian citizen, please make sure that your visa type allows volunteer activity. For more information, please visit DIBP’s website at homeaffairs.gov.au.
Yes! It is possible to volunteer at more than one Salvos Stores locations.

Office positions are only available in VIC, TAS, SA, NT & WA. These positions are displayed on Seek and Volunteer.
Yes. Salvos Store volunteers adhere to a code of neat dress when working on our retail floor. We must insist on closed toe shoes (excluding runners) to be compliant with Workplace Health & Safety requirements. In some states it is preferred that staff wear black clothing, this applies in VIC, TAS, SA, WA & NT.
Yes. For volunteers, we provide an in-store induction and on site “on the job” training for the tasks you are undertaking.
